NOTE: No survey this week, we continue again next week on Tuesday. You’ll get your reminder email as always.
The Q1 competition has finished and it’s time for our favorite activity: congratulating our dear winners!
It has been a tough first quarter, no doubt, as you might have experienced yourselves. In what was a classic kangaroo market (higher one week, lower the next, and then repeat, with high intraday volatility), the wisdom of crowds method had difficulty picking out a proper signal. It still works better than, say, momentum strategies, but it has its limits.
Naturally, such a volatile environment affected both your performance and ours (more about ours in the next blog). Your average scores were lower than usual in a given quarter, but the margins separating the top performers were razor thin until the bitter end. We had 7 total changes in the first place on our leaderboard in 9 weeks. Almost every week it was someone else, as the person before them got punished for a miss.
Nevertheless, you did perform, you stayed consistent, and congratulations on that. And, as always, a huge thank you for playing, your rewards are well deserved!
Without further ado, here it is, our top 20 performers in Q1 2023:
Notice how tight the race was. Top 3 are separated by 0.22 points. Top 5 by 0.5 points. And even the top 20 are separated by only 5 points.
The winner, choosing to stay anonymous, is someone who won one of our prizes before (we’ll email him for a statement on that :) Also happy to see some familiar faces in the top 20. Good to see all of you performing well.
Distribution of prizes
As per our competition rules, this was the announced distribution of prizes per quarter:
1st place = $1,000
2nd place = $700
3rd place = $500
